REBECCA (BECKY)
She/They, 23, Covina CA

Q. What do you think your room says about you?

-My room is the physical manifestation of myself, my personality, and interests. I think it shows my inner child really well, it’s very girly, silly, and it’s definitely the room I wish I had growing up.
Q. Do you think your future room will have the same qualities as your room now?

-I think my future room would, I like my room to feel like a sanctuary since I like to spend so much time there. I like that I have so much of myself projected in different ways in my room, it’s like I'm watching my own back and protecting myself in my space.

Q. In some photographs, I may have asked you what items or pieces of your room meant the most to you, why did you choose those items? What connection do you have with these objects?

-I chose the gorilla plush because I’ve had it since I was a baby, it’s my favorite character from one of my favorite movies I ever saw, Mighty Joe Young. It reminds me of simpler times.

Q. Did you clean your room before it was photographed? I gave no instruction to clean or prepare your room in any way. If you did choose to clean it why? And if you didn't choose to clean it, how come?

-I didn’t clean my room prior, I might've picked some clothes off the floor, but I keep my room clean consistently to begin with since I hate clutter.

Q. Are you home often? (if so why?) Do you spend the most time in your room or elsewhere?(if so why?)

-I’m home all the time and I'm always in my own room. It’s my safe space, my favorite place. I don't like to go out often, so I’m usually home watching movies or playing video games if I'm not at work.

Q. Would you say you're proud of your room? Do you feel like it suits you well? (alternate question: Do you feel like it is a good representation of who you are/how you project yourself?)

-YES! I’m actually super proud of my room, I feel like its my childhood dream room, and that everyone is and should be jealous LMAO. It’s definitely a great representation of myself and suits me completely. So much of what is on my walls or in it is like all my interests.

Q. How do you feel about where you are in life right now? Are you content with how everything is going and how you are portrayed?

-I feel like I’m in the perfect stage of my life right now, where things are just starting to get good. I think this is the most optimistic I’ve been in my life thus far. Things can definitely be going BETTER, but I’m happy where I’m at mentally. I feel like I definitely have a better sense of identity than before, and am more confident in how people see me.
Q. Do you consider yourself a social person, or do you fall somewhere in between social and antisocial? (explain)

-I feel like I fall in between social and antisocial. I can be very outgoing and extroverted, but I get nervous and irritated very easily being around other people. I find it hard to put myself out there, but I definitely try to give it my all when I do go out.

Q. Why did you want to be a part of this series?

-I wanted to be a part of this because I love my room! Since I feel my room is a direct representation of myself, I thought it would be cool to be a part of this, and get to see how others had their rooms as well.

Q. How do you think you'll react to these photos later on in life?

- I feel like I’ll look back on them with endearment. I’ve lived in many houses, and not all of them are associated with sweet memories. Life is rocky, and even though this era in my life hasn’t been perfect, it has been very sweet.

Q. Did you have any following statements about your room? Anything you want people to take away from these photos?

- I’ve had a lot of people say they wish they would decorate their room more after they’ve been in my room, so I hope whoever sees these photos and feels that way has the energy, or courage, or whatever to express themselves, that way and get creative in their living space.
