Q.
What do you think your room says about you?
- I definitely think my room reflects my personality as someone who's creative and centers their identity around their art. I like lots of unique decor from all over, antique and thrifted items, art pieces I’ve made, oddities, the more unique the better! Q. Do you think your future room will have the same qualities as your room now? - I think it will for sure. A lot of the pieces I have are family heirlooms passed down from my grandparents, or they're gifts from loved ones, so those are things I'll always keep around. Q. In some photographs, I may have asked you what items or pieces of your room meant the most to you, why did you choose those items? What connection do you have with these objects? -Everything in my room is important to me because it’s a part of a collection I’ve built for years from gifts, family heirlooms, or random finds when I’m out and about. One of my most recent things has been collecting clown dolls, I love them. I also collect taxidermy, anything antique and porcelain, dolls, and a bunch of other odds and ends. All of it is stuff that I love! Q. Did you clean your room before it was photographed? I gave no instruction to clean or prepare your room in any way. If you did choose to clean it why? And if you didn't choose to clean it, how come? - I did a little bit, cleaning is part of my daily routine each morning, but I’ll always do extra if I have friends coming over to my house. I just like things to look put together. Q. Are you home often? (if so why?) Do you spend the most time in your room or elsewhere?(if so why?) - Yes, and yes!! I've always loved hiding out in my room, it feels like my own safe little world. I'm very much an introvert, so I feel like having time in my own space to do whatever I want is very beneficial for me. It’s where I relax, and I don’t have to worry about presenting for others. Q. Would you say you're proud of your room? Do you feel like it suits you well? (alternate question: Do you feel like it is a good representation of who you are/how you project yourself?) - Definitely, I've worked hard on getting my room to where it is now, I’ve collected and searched for perfect items for years, so I’m proud of the collection I’ve built up. My room is totally a reflection of who I am and what my interests are, it’s very important to me. Q. How do you feel about where you are in life right now? Are you content with how everything is going and how you are portrayed? -I am a little confused and uncertain about where I’m at/where I’m heading, but I am certain of who I am and confident in that and I think it shows. I’m patient and kind with myself, and take things one day at a time. I don’t have everything figured out, but the one thing I can always rely on is myself. Q. What genre or groups do you think you belong to? -I don't really stick to one category because my interests are so varied, but I'm a huge fan of all things 80's and new wave. I also draw a lot of inspiration from 80's goth fashion, culture, music, and overall aesthetic. I have posters of Duran Duran and Depeche Mode in my room, as well as many vintage items to reflect that. It’s just my thing I guess! Q. Do you consider yourself a social person, or do you fall somewhere in between social and antisocial? (explain) -Somewhere in between, I think. I am very bubbly and open with those I'm close to, but it takes a while for me to be comfortable being like that with anyone. I do like being around and meeting new people, but I need my alone time to stay sane. I'm an introvert, it's how I recharge. Q. Why did you want to be a part of this series? -I thought the idea seemed really fun and interesting! I’m excited to see the results and take a look into other peoples lives/spaces also. Q.How do you think you'll react to these photos later on in life? - I’m sure I’ll look back at them fondly, I’ve moved since these were taken, so I’m in a different room now. I am very nostalgic for my old home and what it symbolizes for me. I miss that place and the memories with friends that were made there. Q. Did you have any following statements about your room? Anything you want people to take away from these photos? -I don’t really try to make any statements, maybe other than being myself authentically. I think self-expression is so important to our well being, and everyone should have the space and comfort to be themselves, in regards to their room and life in general. |
