KENNEDY
She/Her, 21, Hacienda Heights, CA

Q. What do you think your room says about you?
-I think it says that I have way too much stuff. That's usually what people comment on when they walk in. It's like everything in my room is saying such different things, it's just become a weird white noise to me. I just worry about people feeling comfortable when they come into my room. So, I've never really thought too much about what it's saying about me.

Q. Do you think your future room will have the same qualities as your room now?

- I'll probably always struggle with having too many things and nowhere to put them. Other than that I'd hope not, this is definitely not what my ideal room would look like.

Q. In some photographs, I may have asked you what items or pieces of your room meant the most to you, why did you choose those items? What connection do you have with these objects?

- I chose one of my plushies because it was the first one I was gifted as an adult. It sort of made me realize my love for them, which led to me deciding to make some of my own. I finally felt like I had found a creative outlet that was right for me.

Q. Did you clean your room before it was photographed? I gave no instruction to clean or prepare your room in any way. If you did choose to clean it why? And if you didn't choose to clean it, how come?

- Yes I did clean my room (very last minute). Partly because I was embarrassed for you to think I was a mess, but mostly because I wanted it to look nice in the photos. I have so many things in my room, I feel like you really can't appreciate them all when they're not where they belong.

Q. Are you home often? (if so why?) Do you spend the most time in your room or elsewhere?(if so why?)
- I would say I'm home pretty often. I guess it's because I just kind of like to keep to myself. I spend most of my time in my room for the same reason.

Q. Would you say you're proud of your room? Do you feel like it suits you well? (alternate question: Do you feel like it is a good representation of who you are/how you project yourself?)
- I wouldn't say proud, but I'm satisfied with it. It suits me well in the sense that me and all my things fit in here somewhat comfortably. I guess my room still feels very childlike to me, so I'd hope it's not a good representation of who I am even though it probably is.

Q. How do you feel about where you are in life right now? Are you content with how everything is going and how you are portrayed?

- I feel like I'd like to be somewhere else, but I know I need to take this time to grow. I'm definitely not content at the moment, but I'm learning to worry more about what I think of myself and less about how people perceive me.

Q. Do you consider yourself a social person, or do you fall somewhere in between social and antisocial? (explain)

- I don't consider myself a social person. I get very overwhelmed around people, so socializing can feel exhausting. Calling myself antisocial doesn't feel right to me though so I guess I'm somewhere between.

Q. Why did you want to be a part of this series?

- I had seen some of the other photos from the series and really liked them. I was curious to see what parts of my room you'd be interested in, especially enough to want to photograph them. I never really think to take photos of my room because I'm always in it, but I know one day I'll want to remember what it looked like.

Q. How do you think you'll react to these photos later on in life?

-I imagine myself wondering where a lot of my stuff has gone, or why I got rid of it. That's what I usually think when I see old family photos.
