She/Her, 18, Hacienda Heights CA
Q. What do you think your room says about you?
- I think my room really magnifies my interests for odd things. I feel like my room evokes this weird grandma nostalgia, with kitschy decor & old-fashioned furniture. If I could, I would fill all of my walls with some kind of decor or collectibles, because I like to personalize my space to create my own little world.
Q. Do you think your future room will have the same qualities as your room now?
- No, I do not because my room evolves as I evolve. My interests change like every week, and I’m constantly adding things to my room or switching out my furniture. ~
Q. In some photographs, I may have asked you what items or pieces of your room meant the most to you, why did you choose those items? What connection do you have with these objects?
- I chose my cardboard doll houses because I made them myself hehe! I hope to make a little stop motion animation with them in the future just for fun. Also, my dad helped me make the pink one and it took us like 3 weeks to finish it, so it kind of means a lot to me. Twas’ a cute father-daughter moment that I will appreciate forever.
Q. Did you clean your room before it was photographed? I gave no instruction to clean or prepare your room in any way. If you did choose to clean it why? And if you didn't choose to clean it, how come?
-I did choose to clean my room because my mom would have been upset if i didn't.
Q. Are you home often? (if so why?) Do you spend the most time in your room or elsewhere? (if so why?)
- I wouldn’t really say I’m home often unless I'm working on something. I don’t think life is enjoyable if you’re stuck in your room, and I am very inclined to nature so I seek that constantly.
Q. Would you say you're proud of your room? Do you feel like it suits you well? (alternate question: Do you feel like it is a good representation of who you are/how you project yourself?)
- I don’t think my room fully represents who I am , maybe just a portion of myself. Again, my interests are always changing and it's hard to keep that consistent with my room.
Q. How do you feel about where you are in life right now? Are you content with how everything is going and how you are portrayed?
-I don't feel like I have to be in a certain place or position. I think existence is a beautiful thing and I’m constantly striving to be the best form of myself possible and extract all the wonderful juices of life. I think nowadays there's a lot of pressure to fall into a certain identity but I don’t really think that's necessary or realistic. Although, I haven't done everything I want to do, I think every part of finding that is important.
Q.What genre or groups do you think you belong to?
-This is a difficult question for me to answer because I’m not entirely sure.
Q. Do you consider yourself a social person, or do you fall somewhere in between social and antisocial? (explain)
-I consider myself a very social person , I enjoy human interaction and I don't find it difficult to initiate conversations or relationships.
Q.Why did you want to be a part of this series?
-I admire Ray’s work!
Q. How do you think you'll react to these photos later on in life?
- I’ll probably laugh at myself in the future to be quite honest, but it’ll be cool to reflect on how different I’ve become.
Q. Did you have any following statements about your room? Anything you want people to take away from these photos?
- I’d probably just say that nothing should be taken too seriously and have fun with your personal space .
