She/Her, 21, Los Angeles CA
Q. What do you think your room says about you?
-My room is a physical manifestation of my very being. I’ve collected and admired many pieces of clothing, art, and memorabilia that I’ll cherish for as long as I can. My room speaks for itself, by displaying my Gummo movie poster, cameras, and countless Hello Kitty pieces including (but not limited to) pillows, and stuffed animals.
Q. Do you think your future room will have the same qualities as your room now?
-I believe yes. Everything in my room represents who I am and my interests, and I don’t think that would ever really change too much. In the future, I’ll definitely have more plants.
Q. In some photographs, I may have asked you what items or pieces of your room meant the most to you, why did you choose those items? What connection do you have with these objects?
-One of my forever favorite items in my room is a Daniel Johnston t-shirt I got when I saw him live in San Francisco four years ago. I remember the atmosphere, and how I felt that night, something indescribable really. Seeing DJ live was one of the top ten best moments of my life, and all I have to commentrate that night is this shirt. I owe so much to DJ, and his music is what really got me through my last year of high school. I’ve even stopped wearing it and have it hung up to hopefully preserve it’s shelf life.
Q. Did you clean your room before it was photographed? I gave no instruction to clean or prepare your room in any way. If you did choose to clean it why? And if you didn't choose to clean it, how come?
-Guilty! I would never show my room to anyone if it wasn’t cleaned, if I’m being honest. I think that just adds to the type of person that I am though, a little OCD really. So yes, I cleaned my room beforehand but this wasn’t any different because I try to keep my room clean most of the time.
Q. Are you home often? (if so why?) Do you spend the most time in your room or elsewhere?(if so why?)
-No, I’m almost never home. It’s upsetting because I enjoy staying home, I’m a homebody by nature. However, capitalism is what makes this world go round and I need to work. I’m also in my last year of undergrad so I’m on campus a lot or with my friends. Or creating or thrifting. But when I am home, I do spend time in my room because I love the atmosphere it has.
Q. Would you say you're proud of your room? Do you feel like it suits you well? (alternate question: Do you feel like it is a good representation of who you are/how you project yourself?)
-I'm very proud of my room and grateful to even have one. I think it suits me well, and anyone who knows me always tells me that it’s me in a room setting.
Q. How do you feel about where you are in life right now? Are you content with how everything is going and how you are portrayed?
-My life is very hectic right now. As I previously, stated I’m always busy and almost never home, which doesn’t really allow for any relaxation time. I try to not get too stressed out though, because almost everything is temporary and I’m working up to bigger and better goals, that I hope to achieve in the future. Therefore, I feel as if I’m portrayed as a hard worker (with orange hair).
Q. Do you consider yourself a social person, or do you fall somewhere in between social and antisocial? (explain)
-Most people would describe me as social, and I have to say I agree with them. I recall my mother saying that she never worried about me making friends, or making myself comfortable in a new space because that was just who I was, a social being.
Q. Why did you want to be a part of this series?
- One of the main reasons why I decided to be a part of this series is because of Ray (the photographer). I respect his craft and the authenticity he brings to film photography. I also feel as if my room is at a place in life that I want to be able to cherish even after I end up moving, and having photographs taken of it will allow for a beautiful carbon copy.
Q. How do you think you'll react to these photos later on in life?
-I think I’ll have bittersweet reactions. I’ll miss my used to be space but also would be grateful that there's even a picture of it to begin with. I’ll also miss my hair (I already do!). I tend to alter my hair color a lot and end up missing the phases I went through.
Q. Did you have any following statements about your room? Anything you want people to take away from these photos?
- #leo energy forever
