Q. What do you think your room says about you?
- I think my room says that I love color and open space, which intern expresses that I’m an open person. It definitely shows that I love color as accents rather than as a theme. I just moved into this space so it allowed me to be more expressive by starting from scratch. I display pictures of my friends and their art on my walls because they inspire me and I love them so. Q. Do you think your future room will have the same qualities as your room now? - Yes, my future room will definitely have color and hopefully more plants. I know I will always have photos of my friends/loved ones and their art because it makes me happy and reminds me that I’m around all the these amazing people. Q. In some photographs, I may have asked you what items or pieces of your room meant the most to you, why did you choose those items? What connection do you have with these objects? - I choose to show off this portrait my boyfriend painted of us. He painted a photo of us together that we took at the beach. This photo is already held close to my heart because we were embracing each other in that moment, and the sun was setting so you could see the colors blending behind us. His portrait basically isolates us as the subject and uses multiple colors to fill our silhouette and it just reminds me of that perfect day at the beach with the colorful sky and full of love. I also showed off this hello kitty toy that my nephew left in my room. She’s a little rock star with a guitar and has a bottom in the bag so she can stroke the guitar. It reminds me of him and is cute addition to my room. Q. Did you clean your room before it was photographed? I gave no instruction to clean or prepare your room in any way. If you did choose to clean it why? And if you didn't choose to clean it, how come? - Yes I did. I like to clean my room at least once a day. My room isn’t always messy, but when I get ready I tend to move fast and worry about the mess later. Q. Are you home often? (if so why?) Do you spend the most time in your room or elsewhere?(if so why?) - Yes I am. My roommate and I like to have breakfast and coffee together, but if she’s working from home I’m usually in my room with my cat or with my boyfriend in his or my room. Q. Would you say you're proud of your room? Do you feel like it suits you well? (alternate question: Do you feel like it is a good representation of who you are/how you project yourself?) - I’m proud of my room, however there’s always room for improvement. When I can’t sleep I'll start to visualize change in my room and get this burst of energy to rearrange everything. I hope to have more plants, but that depends on the two plants I have currently. Q. How do you feel about where you are in life right now? Are you content with how everything is going and how you are portrayed? - I'm content with where my life is right now. I’m healing and growing from every experience I've encountered this year, and I know the people around me support me and help shape the person I am even though I have no idea who I am. Q. Do you consider yourself a social person, or do you fall somewhere in between social and antisocial? (explain) - I think it depends on my environment. I’m definitely more social with people I know and at times I can be anti social with people I don’t really know. I’m not afraid to make friends, but I’m aware of who I surround myself with and I think it’s important to take note of the energy you give and take. Q.Why did you want to be a part of this series? - When Ray started this project I did not want my room to be photographed because at the time, that room did not represent ME. It does now, and I wanted to be apart of this series because it’s honest and shows other forms of representations. Q. How do you think you'll react to these photos later on in life? - I think I’ll appreciate these photos because it’s a new chapter in my life that gets to be documented and shared. Expressing yourself can be hard and being able to do that comfortably is rare, nice to see, and I hope to continue practicing it. Q. Did you have any following statements about your room? Anything you want people to take away from these photos? - My room is my safe space where my cat and I cuddle under my plant and around many photos of my friends and loved ones that I hope to have more of. |
